A play area in Chesterfield has received a substantial makeover thanks to £12k funding from Sanctuary. The works included removing old equipment at the Whittington Lane playground in Unstone and replacing it with brand-new items.

The playground is just a short walk from Sanctuary’s The Boatyard development, where it is working with Homes England and contractor Vistry Partnerships to deliver 48 new homes for affordable rent and shared ownership.

The improvements have been delivered through Sanctuary’s MORE programme, which aims to support local need and deliver community investment in the places where it is building new homes.

Sanctuary has worked closely with Unstone Parish Council, which also contributed funds for the new playground and will be responsible for ongoing maintenance, while Vistry arranged the installation of the new equipment.

Colleen Eccles, Sanctuary’s head of place shaping, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work so closely with the parish council and deliver a project that will have real benefits for the local community.

“The playground is in a lovely location and I’m sure families from our new development and all over Unstone will enjoy visiting and playing on the new equipment.”

Cllr Sandra Hopkinson, chair of Unstone Parish Council, added: “We’re delighted with the new play area that Sanctuary has part-funded and know it will be well-used by local children now and in the future. We’d like to say thank you to Sanctuary for its support.”
